For the second year, the Hightstown East Windsor Youth Baseball League organized a charity football game the Saturday after Thanksgiving to raise money for the Rise food pantry.

East Windsor resident Tom Walsh, a first-year assistant coach with the Hightstown Rams football team, and 20 of his friends helped organize this year’s event, which raised $1,135 for the food pantry.

Alumni of the HEWYBL 18 years and older who played in the youth league played in the charity game. Last year, between 80 and 90 players participated. This year, 110 men and women showed up to play in the game.

“Some teams came with a set roster and walk-ins are always welcome. Teams were of various ages. It was a great day to see everyone during the holidays, especially old friends,” said Mr. Walsh.

“We are so thankful for all of the community support for Rise,” said Leslie Koppel, executive director for Rise: A Community Service Partnership, which is at 116 North Main St. in Hightstown. “We have worked with the Rams players throughout the year where they help at the Rise Food Pantry and during the Rise to the TASK community dinners. It is wonderful to see their commitment to the local community and them helping out keeps going after they graduate. Teammates and friends continue to play and support their local Hightstown East Windsor community.”
