The Hightstown Cultural Arts Commission will host the 2nd annual Empty Bowls event, this year at Hightstown Engine Company #1 Banquet Hall. Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger, personalized by artists and arts organizations on a community level. Guests choose a bowl handmade by a local artist, to fill with soup or hot dishes donated by area eateries, and keep the bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. In exchange for the meal, and the bowl, guests contribute a donation.
The Commission’s first Empty Bowls featured 200 unique stoneware bowls donated by Hightstown resident and ceramic artist Adam Welch, with delicious soups from 7 local restaurants. The event raised over $6,000 for the Rise Food Pantry. This year proceeds will again benefit the Food Pantry and be shared with the Cultural Arts Commission to support arts activities, public art and educational workshops..
Ceramic artist Adam Welch is donating 250 beautiful handmade bowls along with 50 additional bowls created by Hightstown High School students.
